Following a new injection of capital, Atlanta-based gaming and esports startup Resurgens Gaming is launching a new video game accelerator.
Ghost Launchpad, as it will be known, will be based in Atlanta. Todd Harris, Resurgens Gaming’s CEO, told Hypepotamus that Launchpad will work to have 20 resident game developers and somewhere between five and ten developers working remotely with the accelerator by this summer.
The program will be led by Brian Grayson, former Vice President at Hi-Rez Studios.
It will leverage Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN), which “allows developers to create and publish original interactive content at groundbreaking speed.”
Todd Harris and Nabil Ismail founded Resurgens in 2019 as a gaming lifestyle and media company. Currently, Resurgens offers live event production through Skillshot and event venue space through the Resurgens Center. It also powers Ghost, an Atlanta-based gaming lifestyle organization.
Harris said the creation of Ghost Launchpad is about ensuring Resurgens remains a leader in the ever-evolving creator economy.
“The addition of video game development and publishing to our creator-driven media and live events positions us to better assist leading endemic and non-endemic brands as they integrate into the fastest-growing area of media and entertainment,” Harris added in a statement.
About The Resurgens Gaming Fundraise
A mix of tech, entertainment, and sports giants contributed to Resurgens’ latest seven-figure ‘Series Seed Plus’ funding round.
The exact dollar amount of the funding round was not disclosed.
Investors in the round include Invest Georgia, Atlanta-based Sound Media Ventures and Atlanta-based Phoenix Capital Ventures. The family office of Atlanta Hawks All-Star Trae Young, PrizePicks’ founder Adam Wexler, KontrolFreek founder Ashish Mistry, Chair of the Recording Academy Tammy Hurt, and Blue Mammoth Games’ Matt Woomer also joined.
“Resurgens is well positioned within the creator-driven entertainment industry”, says Knox Massey, Executive Director of Invest Georgia. “With this investment and the creation of an accelerator we see economic opportunities for more Georgians to create and publish their own video games.”
What’s Trending In The Gaming World
Harris told us that “social-first gameplay” is a big trend in the gaming community right now, as players look for accessible games that help them connect with their friends.
“Fortnite was a huge game and is now turning into a distribution platform for other games. Fortnite has 100 million active users a month so there is room for many different genres but the general industry trend is people buying fewer new games but rather spending more time within existing gaming ecosystems such as Roblox, Minecraft, and Fortnite, and playing different games within those platforms,” Harris added.
